2021金點設計展 GOLDEN PIN DESIGN AWARD 2021 EXHIBITION

小小個體的想法安靜而孤獨地醞釀，成形後上載至較大的系統，對話與交織後共構出更宏觀的整體。這個習以為常的過程，在Covid-19疫情下更顯對比，實體的隔離讓喧嘩減緩，卻也加速了我們在虛擬世界的交流。

今年的金點設計獎亦是歷年來史上第一次採全線上評選，在克服諸多挑戰限制後，獲獎作品們終於上載至實體場域，一場珍貴的交流也在此展開。今年的展覽跳脫以往過去的參賽分類機制，以作品的概念核心，梳理為以下六大方向：「重新定義地方」、「原來我們可以這樣生活」、「當設計解決了問題」、「美出新高度」、「向未來前進」、「想像力帶我們去任何地方」，釋放實體物件間的視覺關聯性，讓作品從創作本質的角度，得以產生跨領域的對話。

此外，針對這六大設計方向，更設計了系列互動提問框卡，邀請參觀者在欣賞作品時，也藉由回答這些「提問」，產生新的閱讀觀點，彰顯所謂的設計獎項並沒有唯一的優劣標準，端看透過何種用甚麼樣的角度去審視作品。在展覽的末端規劃一座了共創牆面，書畫紙條上印有不同的隨機圖案，表達設計並非無中生有的創作，而是從各種現象之中觀察剖析並提出創見。

2021 Upload金點設計展「Upload」是一個充滿對話與討論的體驗場域，展覽將作品上載，並邀請觀眾一同參與反饋，如同設計在創造與使用之中來回精進的過程，彼此積極共創出更突破的設計。

The inception of an idea begins alone and quietly. Once it has taken shape, it is then uploaded to a larger network. Within this network of dialogue and exchange, a grander whole is woven into existence. This quotidian process was only amplified by the COVID-19 pandemic; while quarantines kept us apart physically, they also accelerated our exchanges in the virtual world. This year’s Golden Pin Design Award was judged completely online for the first time in the award’s history. After overcoming multiple challenges, the winning designs can finally be “uploaded” to the physical world, where a precious exchange of ideas will unfold.

This year’s exhibition has not been set up according to the category of the participating designs; instead, they will be sorted into six different design philosophies based on the concept behind each design: “Redefining place,” “This is what life can be like,” “Problem solved,” “New heights in beauty,” “To the future we go” and “Imagination is limitless.” In this way, the designs can overcome the visual associations of their physical appearance to establish a cross-domain dialogue based on the conceptual seeds from which they were conceived.

Furthermore, we have designed interactive question cards for each of the six - design philosophies to encourage exhibition-goers to come up with their own answers to these “questions” while viewing the winning designs. In this way, viewers can approach these works from a variety of different perspectives, allowing us to realize that there is no one single standard for best in design awards; rather, it is dependent on the approach one takes when viewing the work. At the end of the exhibition is a co-creative wall with random patterns printed on pieces of paper, expressing that design does not grow out of thin air; rather, the creative insights behind design are derived from observing and exploring various phenomena.

The Golden Pin Design Award’s 2021 Exhibition, UPLOAD, is an interactive space for dialogue and discussion. The exhibition will “upload” the winning designs to the physical world and invite viewers to join in and participate in the collective feedback, in a reflection of the process through which designs are refined during their creation and use. Visitors to UPLOAD can collectively join in and help co-create more innovative designs than ever before.
